UK Quiz Results, Week of 5-9 Oct: Every Weekday Quiz, Day by Day

The gist: Monday 5 October ran to the billed pattern on all four channels. BBC Two's University Challenge was Glasgow against Goldsmiths, the thirteenth of fourteen first-round matches; one results table lists a 235–90 Glasgow win, and a second source still hadn't added it late on Friday 9 October. Channel 4 put Maggie Aderin in Countdown's Dictionary Corner, and Pointless reached Series 36, Episode 12. On ITV1, Deal or No Deal held the 4pm slot again and The Chase followed at 5pm. Tuesday 6 October kept the same shape: Deal or No Deal at 4pm, The Chase at 5pm and Pointless Series 36, Episode 13 on BBC One. Wednesday 7 October did too, with Pointless moving on to Episode 14, and Thursday 8 October made it four days in a row, with Episode 15. Friday 9 October broke the run. ITV1's guide for the day goes from Deal or No Deal at 4pm into Women's World Cup Qualifiers from 5pm to 7.50pm, with no Chase, and BBC One's 5.15pm slot went to a Pointless repeat.

One page carries all five days. A cell gets a result only when two independent sources agree on it.

Who won University Challenge on Monday 5 October?

The University of Glasgow, by the only score published so far. The series' Wikipedia results table lists Glasgow 235, Goldsmiths, University of London 90. The independent archive we use as a second check hadn't added the match when we looked late on each day from Monday 5 to Friday 9 October, so the score stays provisional on this page. The BBC billed it as the penultimate match of the first round, with Amol Rajan asking the questions.

Last Monday's score is now settled. Both sources list Emmanuel College, Cambridge 190, Somerville College, Oxford 105.

The first round ended on Monday 12 October with SOAS against Edinburgh at 8.30pm on BBC Two; that match sits in the grid for 12 to 16 October. Slot, repeats and iPlayer timing are in our University Challenge time guide.

Did anyone beat the Chaser on Monday?

There's no way to say, because ITV doesn't publish it. Neither the ITVX page, the TV guide nor the show's official YouTube channel carries a final-chase score, so the Chase column reads "outcome not confirmed" rather than a name or a number. What time it goes out and where to stream it is covered in how to watch The Chase.

Why isn't The Chase on ITV1 on Friday 9 October?

Football took the slot. ITV's guide for Friday 9 October, read again late that evening, has Deal or No Deal at 4pm and Women's World Cup Qualifiers from 5pm to 7.50pm, then Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm. There's no Chase anywhere in the ITV1 day. The same guide bills The Chase Celebrity Special for Saturday 10 October at 6.30pm. The full explanation, and the date the 5pm quiz returns, is in why The Chase isn't on that Friday.

Who is in Countdown's Dictionary Corner from 5 October?

Maggie Aderin, as Channel 4 bills her. The broadcaster's episode list for the show first transmitted on Monday 5 October names her alongside Colin Murray, Rachel Riley and Susie Dent, and the independent TVmaze listing for episode 71 says the same. She follows Lee McKenzie, who took the seat on 28 September. Slot and catch-up details sit on our Countdown page.

What happened on Mastermind, Only Connect and Pointless?

All three aired as scheduled, and none has a published winner. Mastermind's eleventh episode went out at 7.30pm with Clive Myrie; the BBC lists the Aztec Empire, Agatha Christie's Poirot and Max Verstappen among the specialist subjects. Only Connect followed at 8pm with Two Hearts against Makeweights, a match the BBC says eliminates neither team. How the three formats score is set out in the Monday night quiz guide, and the knockout structure is in Only Connect times.

Pointless opened the week at 5.15pm on BBC One with Series 36, Episode 12. Michael Ball is credited as co-host next to Alexander Armstrong, and the BBC's billing puts the music of Queen on the board. Episode 13 followed on Tuesday 6 October, billed by the BBC with films with missing words, and Episode 14 went out on Wednesday 7 October, billed with a Palladium question that Michael Ball wasn't expecting. Episode 15 went out on Thursday 8 October, billed with skyscrapers and Countryfile, and Friday 9 October's 5.15pm slot went to a repeat, Series 30, Episode 24, on the BBC One schedule. More in the Pointless Series 36 guide.

Is Tipping Point back at 4pm?

Not on any day from Monday 5 to Friday 9 October. ITV1's guide showed Deal or No Deal from 4pm to 5pm on all five days, the same swap that ran from 28 September to 2 October. The background is in why Tipping Point isn't on, and the usual hour is explained in our Tipping Point time guide. For every show's normal weekday slot, see the weekday grid.

How does a cell get filled?

Two sources that don't copy each other have to match. For University Challenge that's the BBC schedule plus a results archive, usually a few days later. For Pointless and Countdown it's the schedule plus the broadcaster's episode listing, which is why those cells show an episode number and a guest, not a score. The Chase and Tipping Point rarely have even one public source, so nothing goes in from memory. The finished grid for the previous five days is at UK quiz results, 28 September to 2 October. Our sister site UK Soap On Air tracks the soaps that share those evenings.
