UK Quiz Results, Week of 28 Sept-2 Oct: Every Weekday Quiz, Day by Day

Short version: Monday's quizzes went out as billed, with one catch on ITV1: Tipping Point is off its 4pm slot all week, with Deal or No Deal in its place, and The Chase at 5pm is a Series 17 repeat. University Challenge gave Emmanuel College, Cambridge and Somerville College, Oxford their first match of the series; Emmanuel won 190–105, a score two independent results tables now agree on. The bigger change was in Channel 4's Dictionary Corner: Lee McKenzie took over from Neil Delamere for the week. Pointless started a new episode of Series 36, and ITV1 publishes no Chase outcomes, as usual.

This one page covers the whole week, and a cell is filled the moment two independent sources agree.

Did anyone beat the Chaser on Monday?

Nobody can say, because ITV doesn't publish it. The Chase's ITVX page carries no final-chase score, nor does the TV guide or the show's official YouTube channel. That is why the Chase cells above read "outcome not confirmed" rather than a name or a number. This week there is a second reason: ITV's guide lists every 5pm episode as Series 17, so these are repeats, not new games. Tipping Point hasn't been in its 4pm slot at all — the reason is in why Tipping Point isn't on, and the usual times are in our Tipping Point time guide and who are the Chasers on The Chase.

What is University Challenge's new match this week?

Monday's episode was the first appearance this series for both teams: Emmanuel College, Cambridge, against Somerville College, Oxford, with Amol Rajan asking the questions. It was the twelfth of fourteen first-round matches in a series that began on 13 July. The two before it went to UCL, 210–115 over the Royal College of Art on 14 September, and to Southampton, 200–195 over Queen's University Belfast on the 21st, the narrowest margin of the round so far. For 28 September the series' Wikipedia results table and Sean Blanchflower's independent archive both list Emmanuel 190, Somerville 105; the archive had added the match when we checked on Monday 5 October.

What changed on Countdown this week?

Channel 4's own episode guide and the independent TVmaze listing both name Lee McKenzie in Dictionary Corner for Monday's Series 94, episode 66, taking over from Neil Delamere, who sat in the corner for the previous five afternoons. Colin Murray, Rachel Riley and Susie Dent keep their usual places; catch-up is on our Countdown page.

Mastermind's tenth show put four contenders through specialist subjects on the music of George Michael, tennis player Monica Seles, artist Kerry James Marshall, and Dorothy L Sayers' Peter Wimsey stories. Only Connect followed at 8pm with a knockout round between Six Sevens and Risk Takers; neither winner is public. Pointless opened Series 36's seventh episode at 5.15pm, with Michael Ball credited as co-host alongside Alexander Armstrong on the BBC's episode pages for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Details: Pointless Series 36 guide, Only Connect times.

Was anything moved or dropped?

One slot was. ITV1's own guide shows Deal or No Deal, Series 2, at 4pm from Monday to Friday, where Tipping Point normally sits; Tipping Point's only ITV1 appearance so far this week was a Best Ever Finals episode at 7.30pm on Wednesday. An earlier version of this page said Tipping Point aired at 4pm on Monday and Tuesday — that was wrong, and those cells have been corrected. BBC One kept 5.15pm, Channel 4 kept Countdown at 2.10pm, and BBC Two ran its full 7.30pm to 9pm quiz hour on Monday (BBC Two carries no quiz hour on Tuesdays). Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday ran to the same pattern — Pointless's Series 36, Episodes 8, 9 and 10 at 5.15pm on BBC One, and Countdown's episodes 67, 68 and 69 at 2.10pm on Channel 4. The following Monday, 5 October, BBC Two ran Mastermind's eleventh episode at 7.30pm, with specialist subjects including the Aztec Empire, Agatha Christie's Poirot and Max Verstappen; Only Connect had Two Hearts v Makeweights at 8pm, a match the BBC said eliminated neither team; and University Challenge had Glasgow v Goldsmiths at 8.30pm, the penultimate first-round match. Our sister site UK Soap On Air covers what else was on that evening.

How does a cell get filled?

Two independent sources have to agree. For University Challenge that usually means the BBC schedule plus a results archive some days later; for Pointless and Countdown it means the schedule plus the episode listing, which is why those cells carry an episode number and a guest rather than a score before it's confirmed elsewhere. For The Chase and Tipping Point there is rarely even one source, so nothing gets written in from memory. Last week's completed grid is at UK quiz results, week of 21-25 September.

Questions readers ask

Why does this page say "not confirmed" so often?
Because the broadcaster hasn't published the outcome. A cell is filled only when two sources agree.

Who is playing University Challenge this week?
Emmanuel College, Cambridge, against Somerville College, Oxford, Monday 28 September.

Who took over Countdown's Dictionary Corner?
Lee McKenzie, from Monday 28 September, replacing Neil Delamere.

Where can I watch this week's episodes back?
ITVX for The Chase and Deal or No Deal, BBC iPlayer for Pointless and the BBC Two block, Channel 4 for Countdown. More on our UK quiz guides.

How often does this page update?
Every weekday evening once the day's episodes have aired, and a "not confirmed" cell is replaced with a result as soon as two independent sources — typically a broadcaster listing plus a results archive or episode guide — agree on the same outcome.
