How to Watch The Chase: 5pm on ITV1, ITVX Catch-Up and Why It's Sometimes Not On

ITV's guide doesn't label an episode as new or repeated, and we didn't re-read the series number for these days, so we aren't calling any of them new or repeat. When we last read it, on Monday 5 October, every 5pm episode from Monday 21 September had been filed under Series 17. Short version: The Chase is on ITV1 every weekday from 5pm to 6pm, straight after ITV1's 4pm game show. It streams live on ITVX, and each episode joins ITVX catch-up once it has aired.
What time is The Chase on?
5pm, Monday to Friday, for an hour. ITV builds its whole teatime around that slot: a game show at 4pm (Deal or No Deal since Monday 28 September 2026, Tipping Point before that), The Chase at 5pm, then regional news at 6pm.
That makes it the second half of a two-hour quiz run on one channel. Flicking over to BBC One? Pointless starts at 5.15pm, so the two shows overlap for 45 minutes every weekday, and one of them usually ends up on catch-up.
How can I tell if an episode is new?
From the listing alone, you often can't. ITV's guide shows the 5pm slot every weekday but rarely labels an episode as new or repeated.
What it does show is the series an episode belongs to. When a weekday's episode is filed under an older series than the rest of the week, that's the strongest hint of an archive episode, and the dated box at the top of this page flags it for the current week.
Series 19 launched on Monday 7 September 2026, according to ITV's preview pack as published by TV Zone UK. Bradley Walsh is still in the host's chair after 17 years of the daytime show.
The new run lasted two weeks. From Monday 21 September ITV's guide files the 5pm episodes under Series 17, and TV Zone UK reported that ITV had gone back to repeats with no return date given for the rest of Series 19.
Who are the Chasers?
Six of them, and all six are back for Series 19: The Governess, The Vixen, The Menace, The Dark Destroyer, The Beast and The Sinnerman.
ITV doesn't announce in advance which one faces which team. Part of the appeal is the walk-on, when four contestants find out whether they've drawn the fastest player on the bench or one they fancy their chances against.
Can I watch The Chase on ITVX?
Yes. ITVX carries the ITV1 live stream at 5pm, and episodes land in catch-up after broadcast. No account yet? The free, ad-supported tier is all you need.
ITV's YouTube channel for the show posts highlights and final chases rather than whole episodes. It's a quick way to see how a team got on if you missed the hour.
Why is The Chase not on?
Sport, nine times out of ten. ITV1 hands its afternoon to live coverage now and then (big racing meetings, some football, occasionally tennis), and the teatime quizzes are the programmes that make room.
Evening fixtures usually leave 5pm alone. A midweek cup tie with coverage from 7.30pm, for example, doesn't touch the 4pm or 5pm hour at all.

When is Beat the Chasers back?
Not soon, by the look of it. ITV had said the eighth series would air in 2026, but TV Zone UK has since reported that it's likely to slip to early 2027. ITV's only comment was that scheduling is confirmed "closer to transmission".
It's the primetime spin-off where one contestant takes on several Chasers at once, trading time against money. Older runs are on ITVX. The Chase Around The World, a summer series in which pairs hunted the Chasers across the globe, was 2026's other spin-off, and neither touches the 5pm slot.
How does The Chase work?
Four contestants, one Chaser, about 60 minutes. Each player starts with a one-minute cash builder, then goes head to head with the Chaser on a board of steps.
A bigger offer means starting closer to the Chaser; a lower one buys a head start. Get home before being caught and the money goes into the team pot. Get caught and you're out.
Whoever makes it through plays the final chase together: two minutes to set a target, then two minutes for the Chaser to beat it.

Is The Chase on at weekends?
Often, but not at a fixed time. New daytime episodes are a Monday-to-Friday programme; at weekends ITV1 shows a repeat or a Celebrity Special around teatime when sport leaves room, such as 5.50pm on Sunday 4 October and 5.30pm on Sunday 18 October 2026.
What's on before The Chase?
Deal or No Deal, from 4pm to 5pm on ITV1, since Monday 28 September 2026. Tipping Point held that hour before the swap.
