Why Isn't The Chase On Friday 9 October? England Women Take ITV1's 5pm Hour
Short answer: The Chase is not on ITV1 on Friday 9 October. ITV's guide gives the 5pm hour to live football, Greece Women v England Women, with coverage from 5pm to 7.50pm and kick-off at 5.30pm. Monday 5 to Thursday 8 October are normal days, with The Chase at 5pm each afternoon.
As far as ITV's guide shows, the gap is one day long. There's also a Chase Celebrity Special on Saturday 10 October at 6.30pm, so the weekend isn't empty.
Why isn't The Chase on Friday 9 October?
England Women play the first leg of their 2027 World Cup play-off away to Greece, and ITV1 has it live. Live Football on TV lists the match for ITV1, STV and ITVX with a 5.30pm kick-off. ITV's own guide bills the programme as Women's World Cup Qualifiers and runs it from 5pm until 7.50pm.
Football swallows The Chase's whole hour. It also covers the 6pm regional news and the 6.30pm ITV Evening News, neither of which appears in its usual place in the guide that day. We read both sources on Sunday 4 October.
What's on ITV1 instead of The Chase?
| ITV1, Friday 9 October | What the guide lists |
|---|---|
| 4pm | Deal or No Deal |
| 5pm to 7.50pm | Women's World Cup Qualifiers: Greece v England (kick-off 5.30pm) |
| 8pm | Emmerdale |
| 8.30pm | Coronation Street |
| 9pm | Beat the Chasers |
So Bradley Walsh is still on ITV1 that Friday, four hours later than usual. Whether the 9pm Beat the Chasers is a new episode or a repeat isn't clear from the guide, and we haven't found a second source that settles it.
Is The Chase on the rest of the week?
Yes. ITV's guide lists The Chase at 5pm on ITV1 on Monday 5, Tuesday 6, Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October, after Deal or No Deal at 4pm each day.
Tuesday is worth a note because ITV1 also has England v Czech Republic that evening. Coverage of the men's match starts at 7pm, two hours after The Chase, so the quiz is untouched. It's the soaps that lose out, as our sister site sets out in its football nights tracker.
For the regular slot and how catch-up works, see how to watch The Chase. Our piece on why Tipping Point isn't on explains the 4pm hour.
When is The Chase back on?
Saturday 10 October has the next Chase of any kind in ITV's guide: the Celebrity Special, 6.30pm to 7.30pm on ITV1.
After that, weekday episodes resume on Monday 12 October: ITV's guide, checked on Monday 5 October, lists The Chase at 5pm on ITV1 that day, after Deal or No Deal at 4pm. A Sunday repeat is also listed on ITV1 at 5.40pm on 11 October. England Women's return leg, on Tuesday 13 October at 7.30pm, is down for ITV4 on Live Football on TV, not ITV1.
Which quiz shows are still on that Friday?
Pointless is. BBC One's schedule for 9 October has it at 5.15pm, running up to the BBC News at Six. Countdown is listed in its usual 2.10pm slot on Channel 4.

Questions viewers ask
Is the missed episode moved to another day?
ITV's guide shows no extra Chase on Friday 9 October, on ITV1 or later that evening. Weekday episodes pick up on Monday 12 October at 5pm.
Can I watch The Chase on ITVX on Friday instead?
ITVX keeps earlier episodes on demand, so there's something to watch at 5pm. A new Friday episode isn't listed there, because none is being broadcast.
Who are the Chasers at the moment?
You'll find the line-up in our guide to the Chasers on The Chase, and everything else we've written on the show sits under The Chase.
